Come one, come all, to Fantastic Fairy Tale Fridays!

This week’s installment: Goblin Market by Christina Rossetti. It is a beautiful fairy-tale poem, which tells of two sisters – Laura and Lizzie – and Laura’s fall from innocence after tasting forbidden goblin fruits. It is beautifully written, remarkably deep, and (huzzah!) not even all that long either. And it is so perfect for a beautiful October day, with all the deep reds, pinks, purples, oranges, yellows and greens all about me here in the Massachusetts mountains. Just like that delectable goblin fruit! So go on over, read the story, drink some tea, and take a look at my own take on the tale, which can be found at the bottom of the page.

Incidentally, I know I promised that Rapunzel would be this week’s edition of Fairy Tale Fridays…but really, the movie’s release is two years away! We can let it wait. Besides, one of my goals for Fantastic Fairy Tale Fridays is to profile lesser-known fairy tales.

So enjoy! Oh, and the review for ‘A Lion Among Men’ will go up today. Sorry its late, folks. Midterms. Gotta love ’em…
